Welcome to Pleasant Home !

formerly known as;
Simply ?

1) Simply This That and the Other was a mouthful...

2) Little did I know how often I'd be typing Simply This That and the Other!

3) How many Simply this.... dot com's do we need?

4) I like to change things around once in a while.
{Just ask my husband, i learned years ago
in order to keep the gripes at a minimum, I needed to leave the silverware drawer in the same place}.

5) Simply. This isn't the silverware drawer! Wahoo!

Why Pleasant Home ?

Welcome to Pleasant Home !

My great-great grandfather Otto Christianhemmers, homesteaded at a place called Pleasant Home.

Pleasant Home is situated about 20 miles east of Portland Oregon, in Multnomah County.
It rests at the foothills of beautiful Mt. Hood, with beautiful views of the mountain,
and not too far from the bluff that overlooks the Sandy River.
1896 is the earliest record I can find that puts my great-great grandfather in Pleasant Home. Otto and his oldest son Henry farmed a good piece of land in Pleasant Home, and owned a Saw Mill.

The Saw Mill was located just across the street and did quite well in it's day. It's rumored that the wood to build the Pleasant Home Church was donated by the Hemmers family Saw Mill. The Pleasant Home Methodist Church still stands and is open for services. The Pleasant Home Cemetery is situated just behind the church.
My great-great grandfather, his second wife, their first grandchild, and 3 of my grandmother's babies are buried in the Pleasant Home Cemetery.

Many years later my husband and I and our family bought my grandmother's house just down the road from Pleasant Home. We lived in the home for 13 years. A lot of Blood, Sweat and Tears came from that place. It was tiny and old. We were constantly battling outdated everything and vermin of every kind. But it was also filled with a lifetime of memories.

I think living there brought Pleasant Home to life for me and I instantly felt a connection. Even though we moved out of our 'little old country home', almost 7 years ago, Pleasant Home will always be a part of me.
Changing the name of my blog from Simply This That and the Other ... was a hard decision. I didn't want to loose any of my Simply Awesome blogging friends! But changing it to Pleasant Home as you can see, wasn't hard at all.

I hope you might find something here that will give you an idea or the desire to create something for your surroundings and help to make your house a Pleasant Home.

Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.
